The Story Behind StickBob

Right now, you are probably asking yourself,

"What the hell am I doing looking at this site? It's just a bunch of stupid stick figures that look really bad, yet somehow capture my heart and make me laugh and cry. But more importantly, where did the idea for this comic and site come from? ...and I bet the author is a real stud... "

Yeah, I know, I nailed it right on. So, I'll answer your question on the birth of StickBob...

A long time ago (mid 80's) I became aware of an amazing art form (stick figures) and was entranced by their beauty (simplicity and ability to draw them). So I occasionally dabbled in the sacred (probably not) art (and I'm lying about dabbling in it, except for a few things I had to do for school when I had to draw people) and dreamed of becoming a prestigious stick-artist (now I'm just making this up as I go along). But I always thought that a comic with stick figures saying witty things would be quite funny if done right (now this part is true). And I expressed this to a suitemate of mine at school by the name of James, a freshman while I was a sophomore at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA, and he blurted out the lines, "Hey fatty, your weiner is showing." So I quickly walked over to the whiteboard on my dorm room door and hastily, and quite crappily, drew the first StickBob comic. I showed it to my friends, and they got a good laugh out of it (not really). So I decided to draw it on computer. I decided to create some more StickBobs, but I thought it would be funny if I just erased the wording and kept the cells the same. So I did this, and then would transfer them to computer. After I drew the first few, I decided to start a page for StickBob.

And StickBob was born...

I used this format for the original 9 StickBobs (see Classic StickBob), and then left the original StickBob page as it is now. It is now frozen in time. Suddenly, I got the urge to revive StickBob and do him a whole knew format: Make it look cool (I hope), use some Flash, and make it a little interactive.

Why I make you click on cells:

I think a lot is lost in comics when you accidentally (or purposely) read the cells in the wrong order. Online, you can actually prevent this from happening. So I said, "why not prevent this from happening?" I think it preserves the joke a lot better, and makes the comic funnier than if you see it all at once. To my knowledge, I am the first to do this (although I bet someone else has done this before, but maybe not) and I like this idea.

Well, the rest of this site is pretty self-explanatory, so enjoy.
